Microsoft announced this morning that it had managed to sell approximately 60 million licenses including both upgrades and sales to OEMs for new devices, so things are going very well for the new operating system.

So well that Windows 8 has managed to match Windows 7’s sales performance, Windows Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Financial Officer Tami Reller said during the 11th Annual J.P. Morgan Tech Forum at CES 2013.

“Windows 8 is a big, ambitious change,” she noted. “[Sales] are roughly in line with where we would have been with Windows 7.”

Microsoft has also revealed that the number of apps available in the Windows Store had quadrupled since launch, so the company passed the 100 million app download mark in approximately two months after the new operating system went on sale on October 26.
