Net Applications data for the month of March 2013 confirms that Windows 8 uptake remains low more than 5 months after launch, but here’s something that’s even more interesting.

A new batch of figures provided by StatCounter, a different market researcher that also tracks the popularity of operating systems on the web, indicates that Windows 8 is still behind iOS and Vista platforms, reaching a market share of only 3.9 percent.

According to these statistics, Windows 7 is the number one operating system in the world, as it’s installed on 52.61 percent of computers worldwide, while Windows XP comes second with 23.38 percent.

Mac OS X, on the other hand, is the third most popular platform in the world if we are to trust StatCounter’s data, as it holds a share of 7.29 percent, more than Windows Vista with 6.13 percent.
