Windows 8 is Microsoft’s modern operating system whose looks have often been criticized, especially for dumping the Aero design and going for a flatter appearance.

While Windows 8’s look is very likely to be retained in future OS updates, designers across the world are reimagining the operating system in different ways, some of which rely on a more modern look, that could make Windows a lot more appealing product.

This concept, for example, created by DeviantArt user ToRTeEn and called Windows 8 Milky Theme removes the taskbar completely, but goes for a transparent Start button and system tray that clearly look a lot more eye candy than the existing versions.

At the same time, File Explorer has also been redesigned with new controls, new icons for drives and folders, but also with an overall restyled look that seems to fit the operating system much better.

Of course, it’s pretty clear that Microsoft isn’t yet ready for such a radical change, but there’s no doubt that users would absolutely love a dramatic interface update that would make the operating system more appealing. In the meantime, Redmond is focusing more on the usability of its OS, so expect plenty of improvements for the desktop in future OS updates.
