Windows 8 continues to be the fourth top operating system in the world, but the latest figures indicate that Microsoft’s modern operating system keeps growing every day.

Statistics provided by StatCounter for the month of August show that so far Windows 8 has only managed to get closer to Mac OS X, but if the same pace is maintained, it should overtake Apple’s platform in the coming weeks.

At this point, Windows 8 is running 7.02 percent of computers worldwide, while Mac OS X still has a combined market share (which includes all versions currently available) of 7.21 percent.

Windows 7 obviously continues to top the charts with a stunning market share of 51.99 percent, while Windows XP, the operating system that will be retired in April 2014, is the runner-up with 20.58 percent.
