14 DAY TRIAL // Even though everything goes according to the plan when it comes to Windows 8, at least in Microsoft’s humble opinion, new statistics demonstrate that the operating system has once again failed to excite in Western Union.
PC sales in this part of the world dropped by 20.5 percent in the first quarter of 2013, according to research firm Gartner, and Windows 8 has made almost no difference.
“Wide availability of Windows 8-based PCs could not boost consumer PC purchases during the quarter. Although the new Metro-style user interface suits new form factors, users wonder about its suitability for traditional PCs — non-touchscreen desktops and notebooks,” Meike Escherich, principal research analyst at Gartner, said.
The desktop PC market fell 13.8 percent, while the mobile industry recorded a decline of 24.6 percent. HP continues to be the leader, as it currently holds 19.7 percent of the market, according to the same figures.
