The tech giant is slowly gaining new fans in the tablet industry

Microsoft’s Windows 8 and Windows RT have both been deemed rather disappointing products, even though the tech giant invested a fortune to advertise them after the October 2012 launch.

Even though no official sales stats have been provided, new data published by research firm Strategy Analytics reveals that Microsoft currently owns 7.5 percent of the market thanks to both Windows 8 and Windows RT.

This indeed sounds encouraging for the Softies, but Apple continues to dominate the market with no less than 48.2 percent of total tablet sales. Android obviously comes second with 43.4 percent.

Sources familiar with the matter have previously indicated that Microsoft had sold a total of 1.5 million Surface tablets since launch, but Strategy Analytics figures point to total tablet shipments of 40.6 million in the first quarter of 2013.

If these figures are true, Windows 8 and RT tablet sales accounted for more than 3 million units, half of which are represented by Microsoft’s very own Surface.
