14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft said it had managed to sell 60 million Windows 8 copies since launch, so it’s no surprise that the operating system is slowly increasing its market share.
According to Net Applications statistics, Windows 8 has managed to jump over the 2 percent market share threshold in the week of January 6 to eventually reach 2.06 percent.
While that’s not impressive at all, Windows 8 is now the fifth most popular operating system in the world, getting closer to Mac OS X 10.8, Apple’s own software that currently holds a share of 2.37 percent.
Windows 7 remains the clear leader on the market, with 45.15 percent, followed by the 11-year-old Windows XP with 39.08 percent and Windows Vista with 5.10 percent.
Windows 8 had a market share of 1.72 percent last month, so this could be a sign that Microsoft’s new operating system could actually take off this year, just like so many analysts have predicted in the last months.
