Microsoft has recently launched the new Windows 8.1 Preview, so several users have finally decided to give a try to the company’s latest operating system and abandon XP, Vista, or 7.

Statistics provided by market researcher Net Applications for the month of June 2013 reveal that Windows 8 is now the third most popular operating system in the world with a share of 5.10 percent.

Windows 8 has finally managed to overtake Windows Vista, which is now fourth in the rankings with a market share of 4.62 percent.

Windows 7 obviously remains the clear leader with 44.37 percent, followed by the soon-to-be 12-year-old Windows XP, still installed on 37.17 percent of computers worldwide.

Microsoft is expected to launch the final version of Windows 8.1 in October, so expect Windows 8 adoption to grow even more in the coming months.
