The Windows Store grows bigger and bigger and today provides access to no less than 2,371 applications, according to the latest statistics published by McAkins Online.

While this number isn’t at all impressive, Microsoft hopes to reach the 3,000 unit milestone before October 25 when the company will officially debut the new operating system.

A total of 737 apps have been added to the Windows Store last week, with the Games section taking the leading position, as it accounts for 124 apps.

While Microsoft continuously calls for developers to send their apps to the Windows Store, analysts warn that this kind of strategy may disappoint on the long term and emphasize that Windows 8 needs at least 5,000 apps in the Store when it officially goes live.
