Microsoft’s newest flagship operating system is becoming a much more popular choice for gamers using the Steam platform and the 64- bit version is very close to overtaking the 32-bit flavor of Windows 7.

The latest statistics provided by Valve for its Steam service reveal that Windows 7 64-bit continues to be the number one OS for users who installed the client with a share of 53.55 percent.

Windows 8 has a combined share of 13.02 percent, up only 0.3 points from the month before. And still, the good news is that the 64-bit version of the operating system is getting significantly more popular and will soon overtake the Windows 7 32-bit.

At this point, Windows 8 64-bit is powering 12.24 percent of computers running Steam, while Windows 7 32-bit can be found on 12.71 percent of these PCs, so expect a switch of positions in the coming weeks.
