Windows 8 will certainly keep up the pace with the evolution of hardware, and it appears that it will embrace 3D monitors, according to details included in a leaked Build of the operating system that made its way in the wild the past month.

3D stereoscopic options have been added to Windows vNext (Build 7955), according to a find by Windows8Italia, and while it’s safe to assume that they’re closely connected to the new 3D stereoscopic monitors, some of which already available, it’s hard to say just how far Microsoft pushed support.

Undoubtedly, 3D stereoscopic monitors will install automatically since the driver necessary for them to run will be included into Windows 8, since this is nothing more but standard modus operandi for the Redmond company.

However, at the same time, it will be interesting to see whether the new Windows 8 3D stereoscopic options also bring with them a new, three dimensional user interface.

Fact is that there has already been speculation on a Windows 8 3D UI, although none of the recent leaks of the platform have confirmed this.

Microsoft offered no information on the evolution of Windows 8’s GUI until this point in time, and is unlikely to do so for the next few months at least, or until it will approach the moment of the first beta development milestone release.

Still, it somewhat makes sense to have a 3D flavor of the Windows Aero UI tailoring itself to 3D stereoscopic monitors.

What would be the point of supporting 3D monitors only with a good old 2D user interface when the hardware allows for a next generation UX, to put Windows 8 ahead of rivals?

Whether there’s some truth to the rumored Windows 8 3D UI or not it remains to be seen. Personally, I can see its appeal, although I’m not sure whether I’d actually jump at the chance to use it. How about you?
