Microsoft recently revealed that it would release eight different updates on this month’s Patch Tuesday cycle and it turns out that Windows 8.1 is one of the platforms included in the release.

Even though Windows 8.1 will officially go live on October 18, lots of users are already running it right now, and Microsoft clearly knows this, so it’s critical for both the company and its consumers to avoid getting Windows computers hacked.

The Windows 8.1 patch is supposed to fix a critical flaw in IE11 that would allow an attacker to get the same privileges as the logged in user, thus getting access to locally stored data.

At the same time, the tablet-oriented Windows RT 8.1 is also set to get patches, so expect Microsoft to be pretty busy next Tuesday.
