Windows 8.1 is set to debut in only one week, so Microsoft is now giving the final touches to the operating system that’s expected to revamp sales of its modern platform.

The company announced in a blog post that, in addition to all the other improvements, Windows 8.1 would also come with a brand new version of Fresh Paint, the famous painting app that received lots of new features and options for this particular OS version.

Of course, the stable build of Fresh Paint will include all the options already available in the Preview version, such as watercolor, a new graphite pencil set, and a new modern user interface.

In addition to image filters and new options, Fresh Paint also brings several other goodies supposed to improve the overall experience on a tablet.

“We’ve improved pen and stylus input to better work with pressure and the eraser (pick up a Surface to try out a great stylus experience). We’ve added the ability to save custom palettes, so if you have a favorite set of colors you can keep them handy. And, we’ve made dozens of other little changes throughout the product–such as adding the ability to import a painting directly from SkyDrive,” Microsoft explained.

In case you’re already running Windows 8 and you installed Fresh Paint, the new version will be automatically deployed on your computer once you make the move to Windows 8.1, Microsoft noted.

As you know, Windows 8.1 will be officially launched on October 18 and Windows 8 adopters will be allowed to get it for free from the Store, just like any other app update.

Those still running an older version of Windows will have to either purchase a Windows 8 copy and then upgrade to 8.1 or buy the new release from the very beginning. Windows 8.1 has a price tag of $119.99 (€90), while the Pro package is sold for $199.99 (€150).
