In addition to a new Start button, Windows 8.1 is also very likely to feature a dedicated option that would allow users to skip Metro and boot directly to desktop.

According to WinSuperSite.com, the new settings have already been implemented in Windows 8.1 Milestone Preview (MP) that’s going to be unveiled in late June at the BUILD developer conference.

Of course, the new Start button would play a key role in case users turn on this feature. If they boot to desktop and skip the Start Screen, thus bypassing the Metro UI completely, they can easily access it by simply clicking the Start button in the lower left corner.

Hence the decision to use the Start button to launch the Start Screen instead of a Start Menu. Of course, it remains to be seen whether users indeed agree with these new options or they still want the old Start Menu back.
