Microsoft has already confirmed that it's working on a new update for Windows 8.1, but while nobody knows for sure whether the company is planning to call it Windows 8.1 Update 2 or Windows 8.2, sources close to the matter say that a preview version is already available.

While only Microsofties could give it a try for the time being, Windows 8.1 Update 2 is currently in preview stage, which means that work on the project is going as planned.

According to a leaked photo published today by myce.com and citing Microsoft's product release cycle, Windows 8.1 Update 2 could be launched in mid-2014. Previous reports pointed to August or September as the dates when Microsoft might introduce the new update.

The second Windows 8.1 update will bring back the Start menu, a feature that has continuously been requested by users since the launch of Windows 8. At the same time, Microsoft will also implement options to launch Metro apps in separate windows right on the desktop and thus mix the two working environments in order to boost the adoption of the modern operating system.

Nothing is confirmed so far, so these details might not be entirely accurate, so because they're just rumors, take them with a grain of salt.
