14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft hasn’t said a thing about Windows 8.1 Update 1 until now, but there are plenty of details available out there, all of them still unconfirmed but someone representing the Redmond-based tech giant.
As we’ve reported to you recently, a new build of Windows 8.1 Update 1 has recently been compiled, which means that Microsoft advances with the development process of the future release, so partners are already trying it out as we speak.
But here something that’s even more interesting.
Word is that Microsoft is planning to make Modern apps run on the desktop in Windows 8.1 Update 1, so it turns out that the software giant has sped up the development process and the feature would be here a lot earlier (previous reports claimed that it could debut in Windows 9).
Twitter user AngelWZR, who previously leaked some pretty important details regarding Microsoft’s future projects, revealed that an existing build of Windows 8.1 Update 1 already comes with options to run Modern apps on the desktop. And still, he says that they “don’t look like the classic windows.”
Another important change that he says is already in Windows 8.1 Update 1 concerns Microsoft’s cloud-based storage service.
SkyDrive has already been renamed to OneDrive in Update 1, as the Redmond-based software giant has recently announced a name change that’s supposed to help it settle a trademark dispute started in the United Kingdom.
Keep in mind that we can’t tell for sure whether these new details are indeed accurate or not, as Microsoft refuses to talk on new projects, so take everything here with a pinch of salt.
New screenshots showing the latest testing builds of Windows 8.1 Update 1 should set things straight in this matter and according to recent reports, they should reach the web in just a couple of days.
