The first update for Windows 8.1, intuitively called Windows 8.1 Update 1, will be officially released on April at the BUILD developer conference, according to people familiar with the matter.

In addition, WinSuperSite adds that the upcoming release will reach the RTM development stage on March, while the public debut will take place one month later.

While this could hardly be called RTM since we’re only talking about an update for the operating system, it turns out that developers will get it a bit earlier in order to install it on their new devices.

And this pretty much makes sense, especially because Windows 8.1 Update 1 will actually become the next version of Windows, which means that it’s going to be offered to PC makers and volume license customers to sell devices with a pre-installed copy of the update.

More information on the update is expected to be disclosed soon as we get closer to the public launch date.
