Microsoft is already working on a major update for Windows 8.1, but the company does a terrific job to keep everything secret and prevent any information from reaching the web.

Win8China, on the other hand, writes that the upcoming release could be called either Windows 8.1+ or Windows 8.1 Update 1, which means that Windows 8.2 is a very unlikely designation for the update.

More like a service pack, the new update will bring a big number of improvements, including performance enhancements and optimizations supposed to make the operating system more familiar.

Development of Windows 8.1 Update 1 will be finalized in March, the source writes, and the company is already testing it internally, with all bug fixes and patches to be in place by April. This release scheduled pretty much makes sense, especially because the company will host the BUILD developer conference in April.

Windows 8.1 Update 1 will bring several major improvements, including a kernel update and support for low-spec devices with processors of up to 1 GHz.
