Microsoft hasn’t yet talked about the upcoming Windows 8.1 Update 1, but the company is expected to publicly present it at the BUILD 2014 developer conference in April.

Tami Reller, Microsoft’s marketing boss, which has become the main voice of the Redmond-based tech giant when it comes to suggesting what’s to come for the company, hinted that a new product “that’s just around the corner” would also bring significant changes for smaller tablets.

Windows 8.1 Update 1 could also be tweaked in such a way that it would be able to run on smaller tablets too, including 7-inch devices, which could be also a sign that Microsoft’s Surface Mini tablet is also on its way.

“A high priority of our development effort is to make sure that Windows is ... right-sized for those devices. That is absolutely a high priority. We've now got more things coming just around the corner, and so you'll see us do that. We will make a material movement forward on just the footprint of the OS and what that can mean for how we run on smaller devices,” she said.
