Microsoft continues work on Windows 8.1 Update 1 as we get closer to the April launch, and today screenshots of a new version of the upcoming release reached the web.

Windows leaker WZor published screenshots with Windows 8.1 Update 1 build 9600.17031, which is most likely the latest version of the update that was compiled by Microsoft. According to details included in the leaked photo, the version was signed off on February 23, so it’s probably not the RTM build we’re all waiting for.

This version’s build string is 9600.17031.WINBLUE_GDR.140221-1952 and a new MSU might reach the web in the coming days, which means that users who want to give it a try can download and install it over a fully up-to-date Windows 8.1 installation.

At this point, it’s not yet clear whether build 9600.17031 brings major changes or not, but it’s pretty obvious that we’re moving closer to the public launch of the operating system, as the company completes work on more advanced versions.

According to the latest information on the matter, Windows 8.1 Update 1 could be released to MSDN subscribers on April 2, while all users might receive it via Windows Update on April 8, together with all the other Patch Tuesday fixes released that month.
