Microsoft will officially unveil Windows 8.1 in mid-October

Windows 8.1, Microsoft’s first major overhaul for Windows 8, is unlikely to make any difference on the PC market, Taiwan-based industry watchers explained.

A report by Digitimes reveals that most experts believe that although Windows 8.1 will continue to improve the touchscreen experience, no significant boost in sales will be recorded, especially because few users actually make the move to such tech.

What’s more, manufacturers have already cut down orders for touchscreen, which is another indication that Windows 8.1 could actually experience a limited success when it goes live in October.

Microsoft, on the other hand, expects Windows 8.1 to boost not only Windows 8 sales, but also to support the recovery of the collapsing PC market, as sales are continuously dropping since 2012.

Windows 8.1 is set to go live on October 18, but Windows 8 users will be allowed to download it from the Store one day earlier.
