The official debut of Windows 8.1 has indeed boosted interest in Microsoft’s modern operating systems, not only for users, but also for developers who decided to port more apps to Windows 8.

According to MetroStore Scanner, a third-party service that tracks the apps listed for download, there are more than 140,000 items listed in the store right now, which means that Windows 8.1 has managed to break its own record just before Christmas.

Microsoft has already pledged to bring more apps in the store, but the main issue right now is the overall quality of the items that are offered to users.

While many large companies, such as Facebook, have indeed decided to release Modern versions of their official clients, others are yet to do so.

In the meantime, some developers are trying to capitalize on the popularity of some desktop software solutions by releasing spam apps that attempt to trick people into believing that they are downloading the real deal and thus convince them to pay a few bucks for a rather basic app.
