Microsoft has already confirmed that Windows 8.1 is set to hit RTM sometime this month, but new sources now claim that we’re very close to this moment.

Citing insiders, Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley reveals that the tech giant has already completed the final testing stages for the operating system, so Windows 8.1 RTM is expected to be announced any day now.

At the same time, it appears that general availability is also likely to be disclosed in the coming weeks, while new devices running Windows 8.1 are projected to hit the market in October, just before the holiday season.

Keep in mind that nothing is confirmed right now, so we should all take this info with a pinch of salt until Microsoft rolls out an official announcement on the launch date of Windows 8.1 RTM.
