The Softies have finally completed development of Windows 8.1 RTM, but according to a new report, Microsoft is planning to continue work on the operating system until general availability.

Paul Thurrott of WinSuperSite.com writes that while Microsoft has already finalized Windows 8.1 RTM, the company is set to deliver what are being called Quick Fix Engineering (QFE) updates until general availability.

Basically, the tech giant is trying to release these interim fixes to PC and hardware makers in time for GA, thus giving them more time to prepare their devices for the big October launch.

As far as end users are concerned, all these updates are going to be delivered to their computers via Windows Updates in the last three days before GA, Thurrott adds citing sources close to the matter.
