The company, on the other hand, is trying really hard to prevent any leaks

Microsoft has already completed development of Windows 8.1 RTM and an announcement is expected any minute from now, but users are still hoping to get a leaked version of the update before the public launch on October 18.

While Microsoft is trying really hard to prevent any leaks from reaching the web before this date, word is that the first leak could come on either September 1 or during the first days of the next months, as OEMs are expected to get their hands on the RTM version.

A leaked email sent to partners during the last weekend revealed that OEMs will be able to install Windows 8.1 on their devices after September 1 in order to have enough time to get all products ready for the October launch.

The timing seems to be perfect for users who cannot wait any longer for the full build, but also for Microsoft, as the company wants to continue work on 8.1 before general availability.
