If you’ve been living under a rock for the past two days, Microsoft recently announced Windows 8.1 Update, so those of you with an MSDN subscription can now download it free of charge.

Those who purchased a Windows RT tablet, on the other hand, received the update only a few minutes ago, Windows 8.1 RT Update for ARM devices can now be found online as well.

Just like the desktop sibling, the RT update will be delivered to all users on April 8 via Windows Update, so this new pack of improvements should only be downloaded now if you can’t really wait until next week.

The RT version of the update is available in a wide array of languages, including English, Japanese, German, French, Dutch, and Italian.

Many of the improvements included in Windows 8.1 Update are supposed to make the operating system more appropriate for desktop computers, so the new version released for ARM devices does not make much sense.

Still, users are strongly recommended to install it when it becomes available, as it includes updates and stability fixes that could improve the overall performance of the operating system on tablets, including Microsoft’s very own Surface models, such as the first-generation Surface RT and the newly-launched Surface 2.
