The built-in Reading List cannot be updated for the time being

Microsoft rolled out the first Windows 8.1 Preview updates a couple of days ago, together with some improvements for the built-in Reading List tool.

It turns out that Windows 8.1 Preview actually fails to install the updated builds of Reading List on specific computers, even though all the other updates are being deployed just fine.

Users are provided with a rather vague error message that says “Something happened and this app couldn’t be installed. Please try again.”

Hitting the “Try again” button makes absolutely no difference, so canceling the update is the only way to go.

As you most likely know, Reading List is one of the apps that was included in Windows 8.1 Preview, allowing users to save web links and other content for later viewing. The app is only available for Windows 8.1 users and it’s not available from the Store for computers not running the OS update.
