Microsoft has just announced that Windows 8.1 is now available for pre-order, so users who wish to purchase a copy of the operating system on October 18 can now reserve it online.

As announced in late September, Windows 8.1 comes with a price of $119.99 (€90), while the Pro version costs $199.99 (€150). The operating system will be available both online and at Microsoft stores and retailers across the world.

In case you’re already running Windows 8, the update to 8.1 will be completely free via the Windows Store, while dedicated ISOs are expected to be released soon after the public launch on October 18.

“If you're already running Windows 8 you'll be automatically upgraded to Windows 8.1 for free on October 17. If you're running Windows 7, pre-order Windows 8.1 now,” Microsoft briefly said on its online store page.
