Microsoft used the Worldwide Partner Conference 2013 in Houston, Texas to remind users that Windows XP support will end on April 8, 2014, so the transition to a newer OS should be a priority for everyone.

Windows 8.1 is supposed to help you move away from Windows XP, Tami Reller, Microsoft’s Windows marketing chief, said during her keynote, while also emphasizing that this is the right moment to abandon the ancient operating system.

”Now is the time for enterprise to consider Windows 8 with Windows 8.1. It is only 273 days away until the end of Windows XP support,” Reller explained, while also calling for partners to join Microsoft’s efforts of retiring XP.

At the same time, Reller added that Windows XP’s surprising market share is a big opportunity for partners around the world, as most consumers still running this particular OS will soon begin the transition to either Windows 7 or Windows 8.
