Microsoft’s “ditch Windows XP” campaign continues with some new statements coming from Redmond and supposed to show everyone that newer software is better.

Microsoft spokesperson Holly Stewart told ThreadPost that Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 operating systems are less appealing to hackers mostly because they are newer, so everyone expects them to pack the latest technologies when it comes to security and anti-hacker protection.

“Newer software is less appealing to cybercriminals,” Stewart said. “Advanced technology is harder to exploit, and there’s been a long list of platform security improvements. XP, however, is not equipped to provide these innovations.”

Truth is, Microsoft has significantly improved security in Windows 8 and 8.1, with both operating systems being delivered with a built-in anti-virus system and new tech supposed to offer enhanced protection against malware and attacks.

Windows XP, on the other hand, will be discontinued on April 8, 2014, which is going to make it vulnerable to all kinds of attacks trying to exploit flaws no longer patched by Microsoft.
