Apple likely required to release new firmware update

The latest round of MacBook Pros apparently has some problems fixable through a firmware update, but Apple has yet to release those patches in the wild.

The latest reported issue is a problem during Windows 8 installations via Boot Camp. Macintosh computers can dual-boot their own OS and a Windows installation by means of a specialized partition created with Boot Camp Assistant.

It is this utility that fails for numerous users as they attempt to install Windows 8.1 on a new-generation (Haswell-based) Retina MacBook Pro.

Apparently, some users discussing the issue on Apple Support Communities have come up with a workaround, but it’s definitely Apple’s job to eliminate the hassle via software update.

Users are also reporting hangs and freezes with the new systems, so something is definitely up with these Late 2013 Macs.
