Microsoft has recently announced the availability of Windows 8.1 Enterprise RTM for Volume License customers with an active Software Assurance subscription, thus making its new OS update available to more users via TechNet and MSDN.

The company has also published a post on the official Windows blog to talk about the advantages of deploying Windows 8.1, claiming that it comprises "the premium features designed to address the mobile productivity, security, manageability and virtualization needs of enterprises."

Windows 8.1 is projected to go live on October 18 for users across the world, but Windows 8 adopters will be allowed to download it free from the Store starting with October 17.

Consumers will also be allowed to purchase a stand-alone DVD with Windows 8.1 for $119.99 (€90), while the Pro version will be sold for $199.99 (€150) in the United States.
