Word is that Microsoft might actually delay Windows 8.1 until mid-October, but all eyes are now on the 9471 build that got leaked yesterday.

Even though this particular version seems to be a pre-RTM build part of the escrow stage, new information reveals that Windows 8.1 has actually reached this particular development phase on August 5.

9471 was compiled on July 26, so it was most likely supposed to allow partners try out some of the changes prepared for the RTM version before Microsoft completes the development process.

An escrow build is basically a version of the operating system that comprises 99 percent of the features to be included in the final release and supposed to be tested exclusively for bug fixing. Microsoft has already entered this development stage, so expect a public announcement on the RTM very soon.
