Microsoft might allow users to boot directly to desktop in the next Windows OS

Windows 8.1 will bring quite a lot of changes to Windows 8, but it seems that Microsoft has paid attention to users’ feedback and is working on a feature to boot directly to desktop and thus skip the Metro UI.

As you probably know by now if you’re a Windows 8 adopter, whenever you boot into Windows, the operating system loads the newly introduced Start Screen, thus requiring users to click a dedicated tile to load the desktop.

According to a new report published by Microsoft Portal and spotted by WinBeta, the twinui.dll file included in the leaked version of Windows 8.1 build 9364 holds some references to a new feature that would allow users to skip the Start Screen completely and boot directly to desktop.

Up until now, the only way to do this was to either install a third-party software solution offering you such an option, or turn to simple workarounds like this one. Of course, a built-in option to boot to the desktop instead of the Start Screen would make a lot more sense for everyone.
