Microsoft has already confirmed that it would be launching Windows 8.1 on October 18, but the company continues work on the operating system as we speak.

Build 9484 has been recently compiled, with the first signs showing that the Softies submitted it for testing purposes on August 12. Just as WinBeta notes, this could be either the final RTM build or just another escrow version specifically designed to help Microsoft try out specific features of the OS.

As you know, Microsoft does not comment on these builds, but sources close to the matter suggested that the RTM version is on track to be finalized later this month, with OEMs to get it in the last week of August.

Nevertheless, users who are aiming for a bug-free experience are recommended to wait for the final build scheduled to go live for October, so just stick to Windows 8 for the moment.
