Microsoft has already announced that it would launch the RTM flavor of Windows 8.1 sometime this month, so it should come as no surprise that a new build has been spotted online.

WinBeta.org writes that Microsoft has compiled Windows 8.1 build 9472, which appears to be a pre-RTM version that most likely packs several performance improvements and bug fixes reported in the Preview flavor of the operating system.

The RTM version of Windows 8.1 is also expected to bring major updates for the built-in Metro apps, including new features for the Mail client that’s already available to Windows 8 and 8.1 Preview users.

As far as general availability is concerned, word is that Windows 8.1 is projected to go live by October, just in time for the holiday season when Microsoft expects a new wave of devices capable of running the OS to hit the market.
