Windows 8.1 is set to go live on October 18, with Microsoft planning to offer it as a free download for all adopters of the company’s new Windows 8 operating system.

While Microsoft is expecting Windows 8.1 to boost shipments of its own platform and increase sales of the ever-collapsing PC industry, a new report claims that this is already happening in some parts of the world.

Digitimes indicates that notebook manufacturers are already seeing growing demand for new products, as most of them are getting ready to release new devices running the Windows 8.1 OS update.

In addition, demand for tablets is now expected to decline a little bit following the recovery of the PC industry, with shipments growth said to be dropping from 70 percent to 50 percent this year.
