With 3D printing natively supported by Windows 8.1, more and more 3D printer manufacturers are focusing on Microsoft’s modern platform to offer a seamless experience to their customers.

TierTime announced at CES 2014 in Las Vegas the availability of a dedicated Windows 8.1 3D printer driver that allows its customers to start using their new products with minimum effort by plugging them in a device running Microsoft’s new OS.

Called UP! 3D Printer driver, the file is delivered via Windows Update just after you connect the printer to the computer, pretty much just like any other plug and play device.

“The introduction of a 3D printing platform in Windows 8.1 provides a real plug and play environment benefiting 3D printing customers, 3D printer manufacturers, and 3rd-party independent software vendors. Everybody can collaborate on the same 3D printing platform, and it will greatly accelerate the adoption of 3D printers in consumer market,” CEO of Tiertime, Allen Guo, said.

If you’re wondering, TierTime is currently selling several 3D printers, but the most affordable is the TierTime Up Mini, which costs around $1,000 (€732).
