Forum users trying to nail down Windows 7 installation issues in Boot Camp

With the much awaited Windows 7 beta out, Mac users were sure to grab it immediately and try installing in Boot Camp. Numerous issues were encountered by almost every user posting their experience over at Apple's Discussions forum. Successful installations were, nonetheless, reported.

Apple Discussions poster Chuck Bragg reported that “Well, I ran bootcamp and partitioned a 32gb drive ntfs. I ran the Windows 7 disc and installed without issues. I then inserted the OS X install DVD 1 and installed the bootcamp drivers, with the only hiccup being no sound and no isight. I downloaded the bootcamp update 2.1 (I believe) and got the iSight working, but still no sound. Then all I did was download and install the newest realtek HD sound driver r212, and everything so far is working great...”

Poster yanisdesign chimed in explaining that he had done the same, except he had partitioned his hard drive to 100Gb for the Windows 7 installation “But after I inserted the OS X install dvd 1 - I got error 2229 at the beginning. Just an error without any installations...” he wrote. User rebk0r was experiencing the same issue, confirming the 2229 error.

“It didn't work for me as well, 2229 error and nothing seemed to help,” he wrote. “But I got it figured out: I had a look at the logs of Windows Installer, and saw that the install failed because the Table 'LaunchCondition' could not be opened,” he explained. The Mac user posted a solution according to which you had to trick your Mac to skip some steps required by the installation.

“[...] Simply open up the Bootcamp.msi (patched or original, shouldn't matter), and right-click on the 'LaunchCondition' entry in the left scrollbox and select drop. This will delete the table and the install should run just fine,” the user claimed. “Strangely, my iSight keeps on 'unplugging,' but I had that with XP as well,” he added.

A number of users also reported audio issues, with some of them eventually being able to procure the right drivers. Compatibility with iSight remains unresolved.

Have you tried installing Windows 7 yet? If yes, post a comment below, or use our forum to share your experience with whomever might be interested.
