Microsoft has released a new cumulative time zone update for Windows 7 and for all additional Windows platforms that are still supported by the company.

KB 2443685 December 2010 cumulative time zone update for Windows operating systems can be accessed for specific information related to the refresh provided on November 23rd, 2010.

At the same time, the updates themselves are up for grabs via the Microsoft Download Center, for customers that are comfortable with downloading and installing the refreshes themselves.

Of course, as it is the case with the company’s updates, the new Windows time zone changes will also be served automatically to customers through Windows Update.

“This update supersedes and replaces update 2158563, which was released in September 2010. This update also includes additional time zone changes made after update 2158563 was created,” Microsoft informed.

“We recommend that you deploy the most current Windows cumulative time zone update to guarantee the consistency of the time zone database on all systems.”

KB 2443685 brings to the table a specific list of changes, and in this regard, some customers might not need to deploy it right away, while other should prioritize its integration.

Microsoft made sure to detail the modifications introduced by the latest Windows time zone update compared to the previous refresh:

“Magadan Standard Time: Creates Magadan Standard Time time zone with the display name of “(UTC+11:00) Magadan". This timezone will have DST support, with DST starting in March and ending in October.

Removes "Magadan" from the display name of "(UTC+11:00) Magadan, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia" time zone, which does not have DST support.

Namibia Standard Time, displayname (UTC +1:00) Windhoek: Changes the time zone bias from UTC+2:00 to UTC+1:00. Changes the DST start and end dates, so DST starts in September and ends in April.

Egypt Standard Time, displayname (UTC +2:00) Cairo: Sets 2011 DST start-date to occur in April and DST end-date to occur in September.”
