Microsoft is making headway with the development of the first service pack for Windows 7 RTM. The Redmond company even promised to deliver the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Beta bits to the public by the end of this month. However, Build 7601.16562.100603-1800 has already been leaked into the wild, and is offered for download from a variety of sources. Concomitantly with Windows 7 SP1 Beta Build 7601.16562.100603-1800 making its way into the wild, the Release Notes for the service pack development milestone were also leaked.

The Beta for the first Windows 7 upgrade has been accessible to a select pool of testers since last month. It is clear that some of the early adopters that the software giant is working with are responsible for leaking the Beta as well as the accompanying Release Notes. Still, the documentation won’t be of much use, especially since it offers almost no details about the upgrade.

“These release notes address the most critical issues and information about this Beta release of the Windows 7 operating system with Service Pack 1 (SP1). Currently, no critical issues that require you to take corrective action either before or immediately after installation have been reported or discovered in testing. This document is continuously updated, so if any such issues are discovered or reported, they will be available here,” it is noted in the Release Notes.

The document also contains a number of links pointing testers to more Windows 7 SP1 Beta information (included below). Unfortunately, at the time of this article none of the links in the Windows 7 SP1 Beta Release Notes were live, although they are bound to be, by the end of this month.

“For additional information about other aspects of the release, see the following documents: • Hotfixes and Security Updates included in Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=194725) • Notable Changes in Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=194726) • Deployment Guide for Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1 and Windows 7 with SP1 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=192441) • Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Beta Test Focus Guide (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=194727),” Microsoft added in the Release Notes.
