Windows 7 has been immensely successful for Microsoft in the first half a year since the operating system was introduced. But the Redmond company continues to push the OS hard, attempting to convince more and more users to make the jump. According to statistics shared by the software giant, over 100 million copies of Windows 7 have already been sold worldwide since the platform debuted on October 22nd, 2009. Microsoft isn’t saying just how many of the new Windows 7 customers are businesses, but the fact of the matter is that even corporations that skipped Windows Vista altogether such as Intel have embraced Windows 7.

Microsoft Technical Fellow Mark Russinovich is the host of a new virtual roundtable, a small get-together where Windows 7 geekery hits an all-time high, focused on convincing business customers that the successor of Vista is the right choice for them. ‘The Last Mile: Pilot and Deploy Windows 7’ can be accessed through TechNet, as it is a resource primarily offered to IT professionals. Of course, ‘The Last Mile: Pilot and Deploy Windows 7’ is just one out of many Windows 7-related virtual roundtables on TechNet.

“Join Microsoft Technical Fellow, Mark Russinovich, in an on-demand Springboard Series Virtual Roundtable as he leads a discussion around the process of planning, testing, assessing and rolling out Windows 7 in an enterprise organization,” Stephen L. Rose, senior community manager, Windows IT Pro Client, revealed.

“Joined by a panel of IT professionals and Microsoft subject matter experts, the open and candid dialog includes technical insight, critical information, and best practices for those considering the pilot and deployment process. Specific topics include the role of the pilot and the information it provides, tools and technologies that will help automate the pilot and deployment processes, and conducting a frank post-pilot assessment.”

At the same time, users can still download the free trial release of Windows 7 Enterprise, and take the OS out for a spin in a testing environment. Organizations looking to upgrade to Windows 7 should definitely pilot and plan for migration and Springboard Series is an excellent place to start when it comes down to getting insights from customers that have already made the jump.

“The Springboard Series on TechNet provides dynamic information and structured resources to help you explore, test, pilot, and deploy Windows 7. Discover how Windows 7 can help IT professionals better manage and secure the PC client infrastructure, finding the tools and resources to guide them through each stage of the adoption process,” Rose added.
