Windows 7 customers that are running specific editions of the operating system now have available an update designed to kick up a notch the functionality of the platform’s media core. At the end of the past month, the Redmond company released the February 2010 Windows Media Center Cumulative Update for Windows 7. Designed to integrate with the following SKUs of Windows 7 Enterprise, Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate, the refresh brings to the table a number of fixes which will improve the overall user experience of Windows Media Center in Windows 7.

“This update rollup is intended for computers that are running Windows Media Center on Microsoft Windows 7,” the Redmond company revealed. The update went live on February 22nd, 2010, and according to the software giant, it is already served through Windows Update.

Windows 7 customers need only press the Start button and type ‘Windows Update’ in the search field. They need to access the highlighted result and check for new updates in order to find KB977863. At the same time, KB977863 is also offered as a standalone download. Windows 7 users can grab the refresh via the Microsoft Download Center, but will need to be running genuine versions of Windows 7 in order to actually access the bits.

Microsoft enumerated the “issues that this cumulative update package fixes. The February 2010 Cumulative Update for Windows Media Center for Windows 7 resolves the following issues:
- Improves the overall experience for systems that are configured by using digital cable card tuners.
- Resolves backward compatibility issues for some legacy Windows Media Center extensibility applications.
- Resolves an issue with how recorded TV shows are managed when switching to a user locale that is based on the Hijri calendar.
- Improves the overall experience when you use Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting (ISDB) tuners. ISDB is a Japanese standard for digital television and digital radio.”

Beware that “Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows 7 x64-based Systems (KB977863)” will cause connectivity issues with Media Center and Xbox 360. I have demostrated that after installing update, XBOX 360 fails to connect. Uninstall update and XBOX 360 is able to connect properly again. Something in the patch is problematic with XBOX 360 connecting to Media Center after the patch is applied. Reconfiguring XBOX 360 and Media Center can fix problem for that session but after you disconnect XBOX 360 from the Media Center and then reconnect again, the same issue occurs and reconfiguration will not resolve issue.

I tried to download the Windows Media Center update and it broke my computer. The download also broke all of my computer's file extentions.
It allowed someone to hack inside of my computer and steal my internet signal by allowing them to take it over so I could not be able to get on the internet at home anymore .It also allowed someone to illegally adress my Ip addres to another persons computer and reclam it saying that its belongs to them and the download allowed the hacker to take over my computer. Please pay for the damages that your Media Center Download did to my computer.email
