End users in the United Kingdom that haven’t made the jump to Windows 7 can now take advantage of a special deal from Microsoft. The UK Microsoft Store is offering copies of Windows 7 Home Premium at discounted prices, and customers can save up to £25, depending on the license they will be opting for.

In this regard, the software giant is offering Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade at just £84.99 instead of the usual £99.99.

In order to buy Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade users need to already own a valid license of Windows Vista or Windows XP which allows them to move to the latest iteration of Windows.

At the same time, customers can also opt for the full Windows 7 Home Premium SKU, also featuring a lower price, namely just £133.98, down from £158.98.

Microsoft did not provide any details related to the discounts, but it appears that they are limited to the UK, at least at this point in time.

However, UK users who want to take advantage of the special deal need to hurry because the offer is limited.

The Redmond company recently released the first upgrade for Windows 7, Service Pack 1 (SP1) which has been available for download since late February 2011.

SP1 doesn’t really bring anything new to the table feature-wise, but it does include optimizations, security patches, bug fixes, etc.

But truth be told, Windows 7 RTM is pretty good on its own, and with SP1 being just a minor upgrade, users can chose to ignore it, at least for the time being.

I’m more interested in SP2 for Windows 7, since I expect Microsoft to backport some Windows vNext technologies to the successor of Windows Vista (this is speculation on my part the company has not confirmed in any way).

Windows 7 SP1 RTM and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 RTM are available for download here.
