Microsoft is allowing customers of its latest iteration of Windows Embedded to take advantage of the platform in more languages than before. The Redmond company has released the second wave of Multilingual User Interface packs for Windows Embedded Standard 7. However, the software giant has also released two Language Interface Packs (LIPs) in addition to the latest MUI packs downloads.

Back in early July 2010, the first set of nine Multilingual User Interface (MUI) Packs were made available to customers already running the embedded flavor of Windows 7. At that time, Microsoft offered support for the following languages: Dutch, Brazilian, Turkish, Portuguese, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish and Greek. Now the software giant has added more MUI packs to the list.

“The second set of language updates are available on the ECE site and also through the Windows Embedded Developer Update (WEDU) tool. There are seventeen Multilingual User Interface (MUI) Packs, for 64-bit and 32-bit,” revealed Lynda Allen, Microsoft Embedded program manager.

Of course, the new releases are only available to customers with access to the ECE website (the complete list with the new MUI packages is available at the bottom of this article, courtesy of Allen). At the same time, two LIPs can now be leveraged in concert with Windows Embedded Standard 7. While MUI Packs attempt to provide exact translations of the graphical user interface for the embedded variant of the Windows 7 client, Language Interface Packs only translate parts of the UI. Still, for native speakers of Catalan and Hindi, it’s still better than nothing.

“The MUI packs are:

•Arabic (Saudi Arabia) Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Bulgarian Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Chinese (Hong Kong S.A.R.) Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Croatian Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Czech Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Estonian Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Hebrew (Israel) Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Hungarian Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Latvian Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Lithuanian Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Polish Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Romanian Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Serbian (Latin) Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Slovak Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Slovenian Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Thai Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Ukrainian Language Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7,” Allen said.

“The LIPs are:

•Catalan Language Interface Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7 •Hindi (India) Language Interface Pack – Windows Embedded Standard 7,” she added.

32-bit (x86) Windows Embedded Standard 7 RTM, 64-bit (x64) Windows Embedded Standard 7 RTM and the Windows Embedded Standard 7 Evaluation toolkit are available for download here.
