Microsoft is looking for community authors to help it build content for its upcoming Windows client and server operating systems. Essentially, Microsoft Learning has, for the first time, opened its arms to writers outside the company that can write courses to build the Windows 7 portfolio. In this context, Microsoft has already released the necessary guidance for potential participants via the "Courseware Library Authors: How to Engage in the Community Authoring Initiative for Windows 7." At the same time, the course submission page is already live and accepting content.

“We are looking for several authors to create the key courses for the Windows 7 portfolio,” explained Jeff Hora, Microsoft lead product planner/manager. “This is the opportunity to compete in an area of courseware where Microsoft Learning has always provided the signature 3 and 5 day courses. If you’ve never thought about becoming a member of the Authoring Community before, and are an MCT who is deep into Windows, you are a candidate.”

Among the current courseware submission opportunities, Microsoft is enumerating topics like Windows 7 Desktop Administrator Course, Windows 7 Enterprise Desktop Support Technician Course, Updating Your Technology Skills from Microsoft Windows XP to Windows 7, and Deploying Windows 7 Business Desktops by Using the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010. All the courses enumerated above are considered priorities by the software giant.

“Through this program, MCTs, MVPs, our partners etc. can write courses and sell them to students all over the world. It's a great way to grow your reputation and your revenue: over a third of the courses' revenue goes to our authors. Just hear what Phil Webb has to say on the revenue potential at the end of the clip below, you could reach thousands of students around the world! And, you are still free to sell your course through other channels, these are non-exclusive deals,” explained Tjeerd Veninga, MCT community lead.
