Confirming month-old leaked designs

Windows 7 is progressing along the development process toward RTM, and the final details for the operating system are starting to take contour. It is the case of the packaging for the successor of Windows Vista. Windows 7 box art has popped up on the official Microsoft Store website. However, it can be considered half a leak, since the Redmond company continues to neglect making public any official details related to the official design of the boxes for Windows. Fact is that the Windows 7 page on the Microsoft Store website is as official as it gets for the Windows 7 packaging designs (via Long Zheng).

Essentially, with the Widows 7 nook on Microsoft Store, the software giant is confirming the validity of box art concepts leaked at the start of May 2009. The webpage in question offers a preview of three Windows 7 editions: Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate. There’s no telling whether the packaging designs are complete at this point in time, certainly not with the Redmond company keeping mum on the matter. However, the concepts are indeed final.

And while worldwide Microsoft has managed to keep Windows 7 box art under wraps, in China the company has been flaunting it for quite some time. The designs have been accompanying downloads of Windows 7 since the Release Candidate Build 7100 was launched at the debut of May 2009 on the official Microsoft China website. Just check out webpages here and here.

“Introducing the newest version of Windows: Windows 7 was built around your feedback, so you'll see a lot of things you've asked for. You asked us to make everyday tasks faster and easier, to make your PC work the way you want it to, and to make it possible to do new things. And that's exactly what we've done. See how it's come to life,” reads the introductory message on the Microsoft Store page for Windows 7. The operating system is scheduled for general availability on October 22, 2009.
