If Vista is now "the safest OS on the planet," so will Windows 7 be, according to Kevin Turner

At the MidMarket CIO Summit held in Redmond, Washington, on April 6, 2009, Microsoft's COO made a few intriguing statements regarding the security standpoint of Windows Vista. According to the man, Microsoft's latest achievements in fighting security are perfectly translated into Windows 7, providing the latter with everything it needs to beat Mac OS X Leopard and Linux in security.

Remarks made by Kevin Turner, chief operating officer for Microsoft, reveal that, “Vista today, post-Service Pack 2, which is now in the marketplace, is the safest, most reliable OS we've ever built. It's also the most secure OS on the planet, including Linux and open source and Apple Leopard,” he said at the MidMarket CIO Summit held in Redmond, Washington. “It's the safest and most secure OS on the planet today,” Turner emphasized.

“Everything that we've learned in Vista will be leveraged in Windows 7, but certainly when we broke a lot of the compatibility issues to lock down user account controls, to lock down the ability to manipulate states and all the things, that was a very painful process for us to grow through, but we had to do it,” Microsoft's COO further explained.

“And the reason that Windows 7 will be successful is because of the pain we took on Vista. Because from a compatibility standpoint, if it works on Vista, it will work on Windows 7. If it doesn't work on Vista, it won't work on Windows 7,” he declared.

Mighty bold statements coming from Mr. Turner! Just to make sure we got this right: at this particular moment in time, Microsoft trusts that Vista is the safest, most reliable OS the company has ever built. Not only that, but, currently, it's also the safest on the planet, according to Turner.

And how exactly does Microsoft know what Apple has in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard that can't beat Windows 7 in security, may we ask?
