The customer feedback for Windows 7 has been positive almost without exception, and retailers embracing the latest iteration of the Windows client are no exception to this rule. Coinciding with its presence at the National Retail Federation Conference & Expo this week, Microsoft has shared the accolades Windows 7 is getting from members of the Retail industry. Erwin Visser, the senior director for the Windows Commercial Product Marketing team at Microsoft, pointed users to four case studies involving companies that have deployed and are running Windows 7.

For one of them, the experience the new OS brought on has been extremely good, especially when it comes down to performance. Cory Strait, general manager, Ames Golf and Country Club noted "We're now running and comparing three different operating systems. The new OS wins the speed contest delivering a 30-percent faster computing. Windows 7 is the golf equivalent of a hole-in-one. My job isn't computers, it's running a golf course and country club. So far, Windows 7 has been extremely stable and reliable… just what I expected.”

Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer stated at the start of this month during his 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that Windows 7 was the fastest selling operating system in company history. The last statistics shared by the software giant involved Windows 7 outselling Vista by over 200%.

Yogesh Kumar, IT director of Galaxy Hotel, explained that Windows 7 was critical to Galaxy Hotel’s operations. The successor of Windows Vista has boosted system performance and employee productivity. At the same time, Galaxy Hotel is also confident that adopting the latest Windows client from Microsoft has also helped it increase information security. “We are seeing efficiency improvements in virtually every facet of our internal operations, from guest registration and check ins, to accounting and IT support – all due to Windows 7,” Kumar noted.

According to statistics from Net Application, Windows 7 has grown to almost 6% of the operating system market in just two months after it was launched. Contributing to the high uptake rate is also the fact that Windows 7 is free from all the problems that plagued Windows Vista. Bergen Country Camera, a camera store, is an illustrative example in this regard, with Carl Mazzanti, CEO of eMazzanti, BCC’s IT consultant, revealing that employees have had an excellent experience with Windows 7 recognizing all the cameras they connect to the platform.

Windows 7 also brings to the table the evolution of file navigation and discovery with new search capabilities and features such as Aero Snap. “Juggling product documents, price lists and stock availability reports is now significantly easier with Jump Lists, Pinning and Aero Interface features like Snap, Peek and Hover. These features speed up our workflow and help increase personal productivity,” said Adilson Fernando, IT manager, Hidrau Torque.
