This is what the dark theme will look like in Windows 10

This isn’t the first time we’re talking about the dark theme in Windows 10, but this is definitely the first time when anyone can give it a try thanks to an official build included in the Windows Insider program.

Windows 10 build 10061 comes with Microsoft’s new dark theme set at default, so when you install this new version and boot for the first time, this is the visual style you get.

With the new dark theme, Microsoft is trying to make its new modern operating system look modern and fresh and there’s no doubt that this goal is reached. The Start menu, the notification center, and the minimal desktop icons seem to perfectly fit this new approach for Windows 10, although it’s pretty clear that some refinements are still needed here and there.

Likely to be part of Windows 10 RTM

Microsoft hasn’t talked too much about the new dark theme included in Windows 10, but there’s no doubt that the company is planning to make it part of the RTM version of the new OS, as it’s looking to give users more customization power on the desktop.

The addition of a dark them was one of the most requested features in Windows 10 and plenty of users asked Microsoft to make more options available that would allow them to change the default looks of the desktop, so following the company’s new open-to-suggestions approach, more such settings are being offered.

As you can see, the design of the windows running on your desktop isn’t yet changed to match the dark theme, but that shouldn’t be too hard to adapt before Windows 10 reaches the final stage of development.

This is the first public appearance of the new dark theme, so expect many other improvements to be added in the coming weeks as work on Windows 10 continues.
